Agartala, 25th April 2026: In a major development linked to the recovery of over ₹64 lakh from Agartala railway station, the Vigilance Department on Saturday conducted a raid at the residence of South District Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Gaurav Ravindra Wag in Belonia.
Official sources informed that the Vigilance team began interrogation at around 10 AM. The operation was led by DCM Sanjay Shil, who, along with his team, questioned DFO Gaurav Ravindra Waga and several staff members present at the residence. Security personnel were deployed at the site during the operation.
During the raid, the team reportedly seized a number of items crucial to the investigation, including documents, CCTV footage, mobile phones, laptops, and a drone camera. These materials are expected to aid in tracing the origin and movement of the large sum of money recovered earlier.
Sources indicate that the investigation has widened, with the names of multiple individuals surfacing in connection with alleged clandestine financial transactions. Among them are a Forest Ranger from the Rishyamukh Forest Division and a Forest Officer from the Rajnagar Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary, raising concerns of a broader network within the Forest Department.
The case stems from an incident a few days ago when the maternal uncle of the DFO was arrested at Agartala railway station in Badharghat with Rs 64 lakh in cash. Following the arrest, DFO Gaurav Ravindra Waga was taken into police custody.
The Vigilance Department is currently working to determine the source of the recovered money. While suspicions of illegal accumulation through a possible conspiracy involving forest officials persist, authorities have maintained that the investigation is ongoing and no conclusions have been drawn yet.
