Agartala, 12th June 2025: The nationwide ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan/ launched on May 29 by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare concluded today with a program in Nalchar. The initiative was conducted every two years, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of modern, innovative and sustainable farming practices to strengthen India’s food security, increase farmers’ income, and conserve natural resources.
The concluding event was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Sepahijala District in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Dignitaries present included Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Dr. Fani Bhushan Jamatia, local MLA Kishore Barman and Sepahijla Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Supriya Das Datta. The event commenced with the symbolic act of watering trees highlighting the commitment to environmental sustainability.
Addressing the farmers, Minister Das emphasized the pivotal role of agriculture in Tripura’s economy. “Tripura is an agricultural state, and the strength of our rural economy lies in the dedication of our farmers. Their contributions are undeniable in keeping this backbone strong,” he stated. He also extended his gratitude to the state’s Agriculture Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, for his efforts in advancing farmers’ welfare.
In line with the initiative’s goals, modern agricultural machinery was distributed to farmers, aiming to enhance efficiency and productivity. Minister Das provided strategic suggestions on innovative farming techniques, stressing the importance of adapting to modern methods for sustainable growth.
MLA Kishor Barman also addressed the gathering, reflecting on past agricultural policies and criticizing previous approaches taken by the Left government regarding farmers’ welfare.
With the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan set to return in two years, officials reiterated their commitment to advancing India’s agricultural sector through innovation and support for farmers nationwide.
