Agartala, 7th October 2024:   Villagers from Baghaiachar staged a road blockade on the Kathalia to Sonamura road on Monday, protesting against the Jatrapur police station. The villagers accused the police particularly Officer-in-Charge Arup Debbarma of fabricating a false case involving ganja (cannabis) for monetary gain.

Residents have long complained about similar incidents, alleging that police officers plant marijuana in homes during night raids or in the privacy of the day, leading to false charges. The blockade was initiated early Monday morning with locals demanding justice and transparency from the police.

The protest was sparked by a recent incident involving Abdul Rahman’s eldest son Alamgir Hossain. According to sources, Hossain, who was preparing to travel to Italy was falsely implicated when cannabis was allegedly planted in his home. This incident has outraged the community, who claim it is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of an educated young man.

The blockade was lifted after assurances from new authorities, but villagers warned that they would resume their protest if Alamgir Hossain is arrested. The Jatrapur police have yet to respond to these allegations.
