Police reported that Tapan Deb, a resident of Barbil in Khowai succumbed to cancer yesterday evening. Around 10 PM, his family attempted to perform his last rites at the local cremation ground in Amtali. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene to mediate, but were allegedly attacked by the crowd. One officer sustained minor injuries, and a police vehicle was vandalized during the chaos.
