Agartala, 22nd July 2024:  In a show of frustration over the dilapidated road conditions, residents of North Ekchari Bangalipara, located in Nutan Bazar staged a road blockade on Monday morning. Hundreds of angry villagers gathered in front of the bypass road adjacent to Nutan Bazar brick kiln effectively blocking the main route from Nutan Bazar to Amarpur. The blockade left numerous vehicles and commuters stranded on both sides of the road.

The impassable road spanning approximately three and a half kilometers and affecting areas like Daspara and Neeldhan Para has been a longstanding issue. For 35 years, local administrative officials have been repeatedly urged to address the road’s deterioration, but no action has been taken. Heavy rains this year exacerbated the situation, rendering the road completely unusable even for large vehicles.

Teachers and students en route to school were among those caught in the blockade. Frustrated by the lack of progress, the villagers decided to take matters into their own hands, initiating the road blockade early in the morning. Despite the rain, the blockade persisted until 1:00 PM.

Karbook SDM Partha Das and other officials intervened. They acknowledged the villagers’ grievances and issued a written commitment to address the road repair. The SDM’s letter finally prompted the withdrawal of the road blockade by the people of North Ekchhari area.

This incident highlights the pressing need for infrastructure improvements and underscores the community’s determination to hold authorities accountable. The road’s rehabilitation remains a critical concern for the affected families, who have endured decades of inconvenience and hardship.
