Agartala, July 30, 2023: Drug user caught red-handed by the villagers and handed over to the police after making him eat grass. This unusual punishment took place on Sunday at Raghunathpur under Bishalgarh sub-division. However, another individual managed to escape from the scene.

According to a local shopkeeper, early in the morning, he noticed a person sitting in an auto-rickshaw and consuming drugs openly. The suspected drug user had come to the area to indulge in drug activities. After a while, another person arrived and tried to take him away, but the villagers apprehended them both. One of them managed to flee the scene.

The residents of the area took matters into their own hands and made the captured person eat grass as a punishment before handing him over to the police. The police seized a car with registration number TA R 07 2366, believed to be linked to the incident.

The police have started interrogating the arrested individual. However, incidents like this reflect the dire consequences of drug abuse, leading to loss of lives almost daily. The lack of stern action from the police administration in such cases is raising concerns among the public. Unless the law enforcement takes more decisive actions against drug users, the situation is likely to worsen. It’s crucial to hold those responsible for drug-related activities accountable to prevent further tragedies.
