Agartala, 4th September 2026 : Residents of several tribal hamlets under the Jolaibari Assembly constituency have threatened to boycott the upcoming Village Committee elections if their long-pending road problem is not addressed.
The affected residents of Charampai Para and Madhula Sardar Para alleged that the road connecting their localities has remained in poor condition for years. With the onset of the monsoon, the unpaved road has deteriorated further, leaving large stretches muddy and filled with potholes.
According to local residents, rainwater accumulates at several points along the road, making it extremely difficult and risky to travel. Students, elderly people and patients are among those facing serious difficulties in commuting, they said.Villagers claimed that the issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of the concerned authorities, but no permanent solution has been found. They alleged that the road becomes almost unusable every monsoon, forcing residents to wade through mud and slush for their daily travel.
The growing resentment has also sparked criticism of local elected representatives, with residents questioning the lack of attention to basic infrastructure and public needs.Some villagers have now issued a clear warning that unless the road is repaired at the earliest, they may resort to boycotting the upcoming poll.
The threat comes at a time when political activities have intensified following the announcement of the Village Committee election schedule. Residents said development of basic infrastructure should not be overlooked amid political negotiations and electoral activities.It remains to be seen whether the Jolaibari Block administration and other concerned authorities will take prompt action to repair the road and provide relief to residents who have been facing the problem for years.
