Violence, Bomb Blasts and Gunfire Mar TTADC Polling at Amatali–Golaghati;

Date:

Agartala, 12th April 2026: Tension escalated sharply on Sunday during the TTADC election at the Amatali–Golaghati constituency under Boxanagar in Tripura, after reports of bomb blasts and gunfire at Dayalpara in Veluar Char’s Dayalpara area.

Voting began at 7 a.m. and initially proceeded in a peaceful and orderly manner, with voters lining up early in the morning to cast their ballots. However, as the day progressed, tensions reportedly rose between supporters of the TIPRA Motha and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to allegations, groups of outside BJP supporters gathered at the Dayalpara field area, further escalating the situation. In response, TIPRA Motha supporters allegedly moved in with sticks, prompting intervention by police and paramilitary forces, who resorted to a lathi charge to disperse both groups.

The situation reportedly deteriorated further, with claims of six crude bomb explosions and gunfire in the area. Two of the bombs are said to have landed near the polling station itself, causing panic among voters and polling staff. During the chaos, TIPRA Motha worker Abiram Debbarma sustained injuries.

TIPRA Motha has alleged that Boxanagar MLA Tofajjal Hossain was involved in orchestrating the incident, though there has been no response from the other side regarding these accusations.

Following the unrest, West Tripura Superintendent of Police Vijay Debbarma arrived at the scene with a large police contingent. Additional security forces, including CRPF personnel, have been deployed to restore order.

Authorities have confirmed that the situation is now under control, though tension continues to remain high in the area.
