Agartala, 11th August 2025: A violent incident involving members of the Aikyatan Sangha Club in the Kamalasagar assembly constituency has prompted a strong response from Amtali police, following allegations of assault and vehicle vandalism.
Police sources informed that the attack took place late on August 9 outside the club premises, where a businessman from Madhupur and several others were reportedly assaulted by club members. The accused identified as Siddhartha Shil, Samir Laskar, Biswajit Shil, Anup Das and Bijoy Roy Choudhury allegedly vandalized the victims’ vehicle and physically assaulted them before fleeing the scene.
Amtali police rushed to the location upon receiving the alert, but the perpetrators had already escaped. The injured were immediately transported to Tripura Medical College and Dr B R Ambedkar Teaching Hospital, Hapania, where one victim was later referred out of state due to critical injuries.
A formal complaint was filed by Ajit Banik of Madhupur, leading to the registration of case number 078/2025. The accused are now being investigated under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita including BNS 126(2), 117(2), 304(2), 324(1), 45(B) and 3(5).
Speaking to reporters at Amtali police station premises this afternoon, OC Paritosh Das stated unequivocally that no leniency would be shown to those involved. “We have launched a combing operation to locate and arrest the accused. Though they are currently absconding, we are confident they will be arrested soon,” Das said.
Local residents have drawn parallels to a similar incident from last year, when club members allegedly extorted money from laborers ahead of Durga Puja. While that case did not escalate, this year’s attack has been described by locals as “heinous and deeply disturbing.”
In light of repeated offenses, residents are urging authorities to deny the club permission to organize Durga Puja celebrations this year. They are also calling for swift arrests and stringent legal action against the accused.
