Water tank meets accident at Kalachari along Kamalpur-Ambassa road

Agartala, 2nd August 2024:   A tragic accident took place on Friday morning when a water tank lost control and crashed into a roadside restroom. The vehicle was filled with drinking water from the office of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) near Krishna Chandra Class XII School in Kamalpur, was en route to an ONGC work site along Khowai Road.

The accident happened in the Kalachari area on the Kamalpur-Ambassa road. The water tank was carrying drinking water for ONGC workers.

The co-driver, Salafi Debbarma, reportedly warned the driver, Tapas Das, several times about the excessive speed. Despite these warnings, the driver did not slow down, leading to the loss of control. Co-driver Salafi Debbarma sustained injuries. Local resident Sudhir Chandra Debnath, who was in front of the restroom, was seriously injured.

Kamalpur fire department vehicles quickly responded to the scene, transporting the injured to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment. Following the crash, driver Tapas Das fled the scene, abandoning the injured co-driver and local resident.

The authorities are investigating the incident and searching for the driver. The local community has expressed concerns over the frequent speeding of vehicles on this road and is calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
