Agartala, October 14:  The ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ at the Ujjayanta Palace premises, a popular destination for tourists and locals, will remain closed from Saturday i.e. October 14 till November 12 next due to the upcoming ‘Durgotsava’, ‘Bhratrivitiya’ and Diwali festivals. This was announced by the tourism department in a notification issued on Friday.

The Weekend Tourist Hub, which was launched in February this year, offers various attractions and activities such as food stalls, handicrafts, cultural programs, games and rides for visitors every weekend. The hub has been attracting a large number of people from different parts of the state and outside.

However, the tourism department has decided to close the hub temporarily in view of the festive season and the Covid-19 situation. The notification said that the hub will resume its operations from November 13.

Meanwhile, other activities at Ujjayanta Palace such as museum and light and sound show will continue as usual. The museum showcases the history and culture of Tripura and the light and sound show depicts the story of the royal dynasty of Tripura. The palace, which was built by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1901, is one of the most iconic landmarks of Tripura.
