CM to inaugurate Weekend Tourist Hub on July 30: Sushanta

Agartala, 28th July 2023:  The Weekend Tourist Hub will be inaugurated in front of the main gate of Ujjayanta Palace on July 30, said Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today.

He said that it has been decided to launch this ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ with the aim of establishing Tripura as an excellent center and priority area of tourism on the tourism map of the country and abroad.

Tourism Minister said, ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 1 am in summer and from 3 pm to 8 pm in winter. During the ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’, the area from Sherowali Sweets to Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan and Jackson Gate Traffic Point has been declared as ‘No Vehicle Zone’. District Magistrate of West Tripura district has already issued a notification in this regard.

In the press conference, Tourism Minister said that the people of Agartala city will get a new destination for fun and entertainment based on the Weekend Tourist Hub.

“The ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ will be also house several amenities to attract visitors. These will include well-equipped mobile food stalls, paddle boating in Ujjayant Palace’s lake  for the entertainment of tourists, photo counters in the garden area of the State Museum for taking photos in traditional costumes and ornaments, 365-day opening of Ujjayanta Palace and State Museum and light and sound in the evening. Interesting cultural programs will also be organized for the entertainment of the visitors”, he said.

He said that in addition, there will be sufficient number of women and men police, monitoring from watch towers and CCTV and police patrolling in plain clothes etc. for the safety of tourists.

“If the ‘Weekend Tourist Hub’ is launched, the state government will get revenue as well as an opportunity of income will be created for the unemployed youth”, said Sushanata.

The tourism minister said that the state government is working on a plan to highlight tourism as an alternative source of economy for the state.
