Agartala, 21st October 2025:  In a proactive move to boost public trust and ensure citizen convenience ahead of Diwali, the West Tripura district police returned 30 lost mobile phones to their rightful owners yesterday. The recovery was made possible through coordinated use of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

The initiative led by West Tripura Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to leverage technology for public service. Speaking to the media personnel, SP Pathak emphasized the department’s commitment to utilizing digital tools and data analytics to trace and return lost or stolen devices.

“Thirty mobile phones were handed over to verified owners today. Our team is consistently working to ensure that citizens regain access to their lost property through systematic tracking,” Pathak said.

Providing a breakdown of the recoveries, the SP noted that 16 phones were traced via the CEIR portal, eight through technical surveillance, and six were identified during investigations into pending cases.

Pathak also urged the public to promptly report lost devices on the CEIR portal, highlighting that each complaint is digitally logged, enabling faster and more efficient tracking. He expressed concern that many citizens remain unaware of the portal’s benefits and encouraged wider use of the online system over traditional FIR registration.
