Agartala, 5th September 2025: A new cyber fraud scheme has emerged in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, where residents are receiving malicious links via WhatsApp and email disguised as official traffic challans from the RTO TRAFFIC CHALAN app. Once clicked, the link reportedly compromises the user’s mobile device, allowing hackers to siphon money directly from bank accounts.
The scam came to light after Sumit Debnath, a youth from Raghunathpur filed a formal complaint with Bishalgarh police station. According to his statement, the fraudulent link appeared to be sent through a government channel increasing its credibility among unsuspecting users.
District police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to refrain from clicking on any such links and to verify traffic challans only through official portals. Authorities warn that the situation has become increasingly dangerous, with widespread panic among residents.
The Sepahijala police administration is actively investigating the matter and has intensified awareness campaigns to prevent further incidents. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious messages to the cybercrime helpline.
