Agartala, 6th November 2025: Tripura’s Sidhai police station staff has arrested Prafulla Debbarma, the alleged mastermind behind the brutal killing of a woman accused of witchcraft in Abhicharan Mancharan Kobrapara village on October 26 last.
Police reported that a group of villagers suspected 55-year-old Nanda Rani Debbarma of practicing witchcraft and allegedly beat her to death. In a bid to cover up the crime, some locals hurriedly buried the body and attempted to pass it off as a suicide.
However, the victim’s younger sister filed a murder complaint at Sidhai police station, prompting an investigation. On October 28, authorities exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem examination before reburial.
A total of nine individuals have been named in the case. So far, four have been arrested, with the detention of Prafulla Debbarma being termed “most significant” by police officials.
Sidhai OC Ajit Kanti Chakma told reporters that initial interrogation has yielded crucial leads, and efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused.
