Agartala, 8th July 2025:   Tension gripped Bajendranagar Nabartila under Kamalasagar assembly constituency following the alleged assault and molestation of a housewife by three men from her neighbourhood on the night of July 05 last.

According to locals, the woman, wife of Shahil Mia was standing with her child by the roadside around 8:30 PM when she objected to a speeding car. In retaliation, neighbours Liton Mia and his two sons Shipon and Shakib Mia allegedly barged into her house, vandalized property and assaulted her physically. Shockingly, the woman’s child was reportedly thrown aside during the attack.

“When my wife raised her voice, they not only beat her but tried to take her to a nearby forest. I tried to resist but was attacked too,” said Shahil Mia, who was later hospitalized along with his wife.

Local sources allege that after beating the woman, the accused trio dragged her towards a nearby forest and attempted to rape her. Her screams reportedly alerted residents, who rushed to the spot, rescued her, and called for help. “Had we not intervened, the consequences would have been devastating,” said a local eyewitness.

In a twist, the accused allegedly filed a counter-case at Amtali Police Station naming the victim and her husband. Meanwhile, the survivor submitted a written complaint while en route to the hospital.

However, serious allegations have been labeled against the Amtali police. “Instead of investigating the real culprits, the police seemed to be acting on behalf of the accused,” a local resident claimed.

The woman has since approached the Tripura Commission for Women alleging police bias and demanding protection. “We are living in fear. They are threatening my family even after what happened,” she stated, tearfully recounting the ordeal.

The condition of the child, who reportedly suffered injuries during the scuffle, has also worsened. Concerned residents are calling for immediate intervention from the State Child Protection Commission and the State Police Administration.

This afternoon, the survivor joined by neighbours addressed reporters and demanded “exemplary punishment” for the accused. The community is also urging authorities to investigate the role of the local police thoroughly.

“This is not just about one family—it’s about every woman’s safety in our area,” one local resident said, demanding justice and action at the highest level.
