Agartala, 10th March 2026: A serious family dispute involving a local BJP leader has erupted into controversy after a woman, identified as Seema Akter, has been missing for over two days, her family says.
According to relatives, Seema the wife of Abdul Jalil, a former secretary of the BJP Mandal in Sonamura left home on the evening of March 8 after writing a five‑page letter detailing alleged long‑standing abuse and grievances against her husband and his family. Since then, she has not been heard from, and her family says they are deeply worried about her well‑being.
Seema’s parents say she had been enduring years of physical and mental abuse, including because of her husband’s alleged extramarital relationships. They say that despite difficulties, she continued the marriage for the sake of their children.
The family claims that about 20 days ago a fresh conflict began when Seema was accused of stealing a gold biscuit worth an estimated Rs 17 lakh after her sister‑in‑law allegedly left the jewellery with her and later claimed it was missing. Her in‑laws reportedly pressured her to pay a fine and applied increasing psychological pressure over the disputed item.
Following these accusations, tensions escalated within the household, and on March 8, Seema left home after leaving a detailed letter listing allegations of abuse and cruelty by her husband and his relatives. Her family filed a missing person complaint at Sonamura Police Station, asserting that the domestic conflict is the reason for her disappearance and demanding a prompt investigation to locate her.
Relatives have also alleged that Seema’s husband, Abdul Jalil, along with his family, pressured her father and even threatened Seema’s father, Abdul Aziz, to withdraw the complaint. They say they may seek intervention from higher police authorities to ensure a fair investigation and secure Seema’s safe return.Authorities have not publicly commented on the ongoing case.
