Woman Who Attempted Suicide Dragged on a Wheelchair Instead of a Stretcher at Hospital

Date:

Agartala, 17th October 2026 : Employees of the fire and emergency services department have come under scrutiny after a woman who attempted suicide was allegedly dragged into a hospital on a wheelchair instead of being transported on a stretcher. The incident occurred at Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital.

According to reports, Priyanka Khatun had an argument with her husband over a family matter at their residence in Raghunathpur on Saturday. As the dispute reportedly escalated, she allegedly attempted suicide by hanging herself.

After family members discovered the incident and raised an alarm, the fire and emergency services department was informed.

Personnel from the department rushed to the spot, rescued the woman and took her to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, controversy arose when the personnel allegedly used a wheelchair to move her through the hospital instead of using a stretcher. She was reportedly taken to the attending doctor with considerable difficulty.

The woman is reportedly in critical condition and fighting for her life.

The incident has raised serious questions about the handling of emergency patients by the fire and emergency services personnel. Questions are being raised over why a stretcher was not used to transport a critically ill patient inside the hospital and whether proper emergency procedures were followed.
