Agartala, July 31, 2023: The Women Commission of the Diocese of Agartala in collaboration with other NGOs, Parishes, Schools & Colleges have organized a silent Peace rally or a Candlelight procession in solidarity with the victims of Manipur at Agartala from near Heritage Park to Circuit House junction.
The convenor of the rally and the secretary of the Commission of Women Sr. Jollyy Kottarathil FS said that the rally was organized to condemn the heinous crime done t the women in Manipur, extend the solidarity to the suffering victims and appeal for an end to the three month-ling violence and strife.
From different works of the students, women, men religious and well-wishers have come to be part of this peace rally and around 1000 members have taken part in it.
“This is the protest of the untold crimes and violence meted out to the people of Manipur especially women for the last almost three months. With banners and playcards in hand and lit candle in another hand we march in silence for we want the nation to know that we too are one with the people of Manipur in their struggle and painful moments. The atrocities on human beings are beyond limit and we strongly condemn this. Instead, we need to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony, a fearless society to live by. Let us realize that each one of us are directly or indirectly responsible in creating a peaceful society. We are grateful to the administration for allowing us to hold this rally”, the statement reads.
