Women force holds road blockade demanding drinking water at Kadamtala

Agartala, May 09, 2023: Amid heatwave prevailing across the state, crisis of drinking water have become an extreme problem. Although, there is a source, but drinking water is not available. Coming under compulsion, a group of local women blocked road at Amtilla area of Ward number 3 in Saraspur Gram Panchayat under Kadamtala police station on Tuesday.

It is alleged that the people of the area are suffering from non-availability of water problems despite availability of source. Local women complained that they are not getting water for several days while there is availability of adequate quantity of water at Kadamtala Bazar and Thana Road areas. They are in trouble due to lack of drinking water. Their complaint was reported to the Panchayat members and Pradhan but nothing was done.

Finally, the women of the area were forced to block the road in Boys Hostel road area with pitchers and bamboos. The women’s blockade has been going on since Tuesday morning. The women said that even earlier, they received water after staging a road blockade. Now, the water has been stopped again.

The police rushed to the spot after receiving information regarding the incident but failed to remove the road blockade. Panchayat Pradhan came and assured to deliver water and also spoke to the department. Finally women force unblocked the road.
