Agartala, 9th January 2026:   A group of women who had been working as temporary patient aides at Tripura Medical College and Hospital in Hapania staged a fresh protest today, demanding reinstatement after being laid off two months back.

The women, who said the hospital job was their only source of livelihood, alleged that the sudden termination has pushed their families into severe financial distress. Despite repeated demonstrations over the past weeks, hospital authorities have not responded to their appeals.

Carrying placards, the retrenched workers gathered outside the hospital gates, drawing the attention of local police from Amtali station, who arrived at the scene. Speaking to reporters, the protesters expressed anguish over their plight.

“We have served patients here for many years, even if only on a temporary basis. Suddenly, we were dismissed without explanation. Now our families are struggling to survive,” one of the women told the media.

The protesters demanded that the hospital administration allow them to rejoin work immediately. They vowed to continue their agitation until their demands are met.

In a dramatic declaration, some of the women said they were prepared to “sacrifice their lives in the course of the movement” if necessary, underscoring the desperation of their situation.
