Agartala, 20th April 2025: With drug abuse and gambling reportedly on the rise, women of the Women in the Jatanbari Dakbangla Road area have taken a bold stand against the growing network of anti-social activities allegedly flourishing under the nose of a negligent police force.
Accusing the police intelligence wing of inaction, the women claimed that drug dealers are rapidly spreading their network like a “spider web,” posing a serious threat to the youth of the area. “The younger generation is heading towards destruction,” one of the women remarked during a public protest held in the locality.
The protestors pointed fingers at a clubhouse operating under the banner of Maa Durga Sangha, alleging that it has become a hotspot for illegal activities. “Some young boys are seen loitering around the club house all day long. It is no longer a place for community welfare but has turned into a den of drugs and gambling,” they said.
Demanding immediate action, the women of the area has called for the demolition of the clubhouse to dismantle what they term a breeding ground for vice. “We want the police to patrol the area regularly, especially after sundown. If they see any outsider roaming here in the evening, they should be detained. Let their parents come to the station to take them home,” the women demanded.
While taking a firm stand, the women’s group also urged youth within the locality to resist the lure of drugs and help build a safer community. They further appealed to residents across all areas to unite against the menace of drug abuse and gambling.
One of the most serious allegations made during the protest was against the police administration itself. “We called the police, but they never came. This is clear negligence,” said a protester, expressing deep frustration over the authorities’ apathy.
The Women has vowed to continue its resistance and maintain vigilance in the area. “We will not stay silent. If any anti-social activity happens again, we will rise up and protest unitedly,” they declared.
