Agartala: April 02. The women of Jatanbari today staged a road blockade as the people living in the area were facing acute shortage of drinking water crisis for a long time.

There has been an acute shortage of drinking water in the area adjacent to Jatanbari ITI for many years. In protest, the women of the area staged a road blockade at the Jatanbari ITI area today morning. According to the details of the incident, the people of ITI area have been suffering from a lack of drinking water for the past few years. In the area, around 17 families are living.

Tap water has to be used; otherwise drinking water for consumption has to be purchased from shops. On the other hand, complaints about the non-availability of drinking water in different areas of Jatanbari also arose.

They complained that the problem has not been solved even though they have informed the DWS office many times. As a result, the angry people of the area were forced to block the road by throwing trees and utensils on the road this morning.

As a result of the blockade, many passenger and cargo vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road.

Soon after the incident the police from Jatan Bari along with officials of the Public Workers Department reached the spot after receiving information about the road blockade and held a meeting with the protestors.

The officials have assured that the problem of drinking water will be solved immediately. Later, after the assurance, the blockaders lifted the blockade. But the protesters said today that if the problem is not resolved soon, they will resume the blockade.

When the summer arrives people living in rural areas are facing similar issues. However, even after so many protests the government didn’t take any step to resolve the matter.
