Agartala, 21st June 2024 : Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Friday highlighted the global recognition of yoga practice due to the continuous efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasized how yoga helps in self-realization and maintaining inner peace.
“We are working as directed by the Prime Minister. Yoga is not just an exercise but a means to understand ourselves. Both physical and mental well-being can be achieved through yoga. It helps in self-realization and maintaining inner peace, benefiting not only individuals but also society,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha said this while inaugurating the state-level program at the International Exhibition Center in Hapania, Agartala on the occasion of the 10th International Yoga Day.
With the theme “Yoga – for self and society,” the main activities of International Yoga Day were organized at the state level.
“We all know that June 21 is International Yoga Day. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi always emphasizes ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,.’ He advocates for ‘One world, one future, one family.’ Yoga is a tradition of our country, practiced for many ages. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal, the United Nations recognized June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. We have been celebrating it for the last 10 years. Practicing yoga daily is crucial for maintaining a healthy body and mind,” said Dr. Saha.
The Chief Minister stressed that yoga is an integral part of daily life and should be practiced routinely. Dr. Saha also mentioned the nutritional benefits of millet, noting its relatively low prevalence.
“Therefore, the United Nations recognized 2023 as the International Year of Millets to boost its production. The state government has also taken special initiatives to promote millet cultivation and production,” he said.
The event was attended by Padma Shri recipient gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Tripura Assembly Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal, Youth and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Cooperatives Minister Shukla Charan Noatia, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Director General of Police (Investigation) Anurag Dhyankar, and Information and Cultural Affairs Department Secretary P.K.
