Youth arrested for alleged derogatory social media posts at Dharmanagar

Agartala, 19th May 2025:  Dharmanagar police have arrested a local youth for allegedly posting derogatory comments and images on social media, triggering public outrage. 

Police sources informed that the accused identified as Rohan Sharma, son of Rupam Sharma, a resident of Algapur Road in Dharmanagar sub-division had been sharing content that reportedly incited panic. Sharma, a Hindu had posted images and comments following a prayer ritual conducted in a manner differing from his religious customs. His posts sparked strong reactions from the locality, leading to growing pressure for his arrest. 

Responding to public concern, Dharmanagar police apprehended Sharma on Sunday night. Speaking on the matter, Dharmanagar police station officer Suleman Reang stated that appropriate legal action would be taken if specific allegations were confirmed. Sharma’s mobile phone is set to undergo forensic examination, and further action will be determined based on expert findings, Ryan added. 

Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when sharing content online and to respect communal harmony. Investigations are ongoing.
