Agartala, 27th January 2024 : A youth was lynched by a group of boys over a love affair in Dharmanagar, the second largest city in Tripura, on January 18. The police have arrested four people, including the main accused, in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified as Sagar Shukla Baidya, was a resident of Chandrapur Apanjan Club area and lived in a rented house in Seram Sarani, Naya Para. He was in a relationship with a girl who lived nearby in Naya Para. About two weeks ago, he had a scuffle with a boy named Ratan over the girl.
On January 18, around 11:30 am, Ratan and his friends, Kaushik, Abhi and others, ambushed Sagar in the gallery of BBI Stadium and beat him mercilessly with bamboo sticks. They also rubbed salt and pepper on his wounds to inflict more pain. The incident was witnessed by some people in the area, who alerted the Dharmanagar police station. The police reached the spot and rushed Sagar to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police launched a manhunt for the culprits and arrested the main accused, Ratan, on Friday night. Three more accused, Kaushik, Abhi and another boy, were nabbed on Saturday morning. The police said that they are looking for the remaining suspects and that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
