Agartala, 11th June 2025: In a chilling case of jealousy-fuelled violence, Tripura Police have arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old youth whose body was discovered stuffed inside a refrigerator in Gandacherra, Dhalai district.
The incident occurred on June 8 in Agartala, but the gruesome discovery was made three days later, triggering shockwaves across the state.
According to West Tripura District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar, the murder stemmed from a love triangle. The victim, Sariful Islam, an electrician working under the Agartala Smart City Project, was allegedly killed by a group of men led by Dr. Dibakar Saha, a 29-year-old MBBS graduate from Bangladesh.
“Dr. Saha lured Sariful to his residence in Indranagar on the pretext of giving him a gift. Once there, Sariful found three others—Animesh Yadav (21), Nabanit Das (25), and Jaydeep Das (20)—already present. Our investigation suggests the murder was premeditated,” SP Kumar told reporters.Preliminary findings reveal that Sariful was in a relationship with a young woman who also happens to be Dr. Saha’s cousin. Dr. Saha was reportedly infatuated with the same woman, and the rivalry eventually turned deadly.
“Overcome with jealousy, Dr. Saha allegedly plotted Sariful’s murder. He and his accomplices strangled the victim, placed the body in a trolley bag, and moved it to another location,” the SP added.On June 9, Dr. Saha’s parents—Dipak Saha (52) and Debika Saha—arrived from Gandacherra with a vehicle. In a shocking twist, the couple allegedly helped transport the body, which had been stored in a refrigerator, to Gandacherra in an attempt to hide the crime.
All six accused—Dr. Dibakar Saha, the three associates, and his parents—have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing, and police expect to uncover further details in the coming days.
