Agartala, 30th July 2024: Thousands of unemployed youths, coming of age with expectations of securing government jobs, find their hopes dashed as Minister remains preoccupied with election campaigns and other political activities. The mounting frustration has led these young job seekers to take to the streets daily, breaking the barriers of patience and organizing protests to demand action.
On Tuesday, a significant number of youths marched to the Teachers Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) office in a coordinated effort to seek answers. In discussions with TRBT officials, the underlying issues became apparent. According to the youths, they visited the TRBT office to inquire why the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) had not been conducted. An official from TRBT revealed that a case involving the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) was pending in the Supreme Court.
The case was resolved in early 2024, and the TRBT subsequently informed the state government of their readiness to conduct the TET. However, the government cited administrative commitments to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as the reason for postponing the exams. Despite the conclusion of the elections, the state government delayed the exams again, this time due to the impending 3-tier Panchayat elections.
The unemployed youths, undeterred by these setbacks, have intensified their protests, demanding that the state government prioritize their plight and facilitate the timely conduct of the TET exams. The government’s repeated deferrals have only fueled the youths’ determination, as they call for immediate action following the Panchayat elections.
