On the 11th anniversary of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Home Minister Amit Shah today highlight the significant impact of the world’s largest financial inclusion initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this day in 2014.
In his post on X, Shah that the scheme was aimed for millions of poor, women, farmers, and marginalized communities who had long remained deprived of access to banking services..
“Exactly 11 years ago from today, Prime Minister Modi launched the world’s largest financial inclusion initiative in history — the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana — aimed at empowering the poor, women, farmers, and the marginalized,” Shah said.
He said, “Under 11 Years Of Jan Dhan, a historic effort was made to connect a large segment of the population — long deprived of access — to banking services”.
Highlighting the scale and impact of the initiative, Shah said, “Today, over 560 million (56 crore) Jan Dhan beneficiaries, of whom nearly 56% are women, are directly availing the benefits of various government schemes such as banking, insurance, and pension, and are actively contributing to the vision of a developed and self-reliant India”.
