225 trapped in Nanded floods; Army, NDRF deployed for rescue ops

Date:

Heavy rains pounded Mukheed tehsil in Nanded district today, causing a significant rise in Landi Dam’s water level and trapping 225 residents of Rawan village in the floods. Intense water inflow from Latur, Udgir, and neighbouring Karnataka exacerbated the situation, prompting the district administration to launch a major relief and rescue operation with Indian Navy and NDRF teams.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, reviewing the state’s flood scenario in the ministry’s emergency cell, informed journalists that Nanded recorded 206 mm rainfall within 24 hours. He confirmed that floodwaters from Karnataka severely impacted Rawangaon, Bhaswadi, Bhangli, and Hassanal villages, disrupting normal life.
Fadnavis stated that most of the 225 stranded citizens in Rawangaon have been evacuated, with ongoing efforts to relocate the remainder.
Eight people were rescued from Hassanal, while 20 remain trapped in Bhaswadi and 40 in Bhangli—all reported safe. Five individuals are missing, and search operations continue.
The Chief Minister is in constant contact with the Nanded District Collector, with collectors from Nanded, Latur, and Bidar coordinating operations. NDRF, Army, and police teams are actively engaged, with additional Army units deployed from Aurangabad. Local administrations in affected areas have been directed to maintain vigilance and public communication.
Local sources reported that the Deglur-Makarabad road was submerged, with several vehicles trapped. Efforts are underway to retrieve these using ropes.
Critical backwater from Landi Dam has fully inundated five to six villages in Mukheed tehsil. The deluge has killed livestock—including 40-50 buffaloes—and severely damaged standing crops.
In a related incident, continuous rain caused the collapse of a recently constructed small bridge near Ashti village on the Tamsa-Hamitnagar highway two days prior.
This led to an accident involving a two-wheeler, seriously injuring a woman and a child. The injured received first aid at Ashti Primary Health Centre before being shifted to Nanded for advanced treatment.
