29 North Indians arrested for copying in Customs & Central Excise exams

A total of 29 applicants from North India were arrested

after they were caught for copying using electronic devices like bluetooth in a

recruitment exam conducted by the Chennai Customs and Central Excise to

fill up various posts on Saturday.

The applicants were mostly from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, who appeared

for the exams in Chennai Customs House conducted by the Central Board of

Excise and Customs (CBEC).

The exams were held to fill 17 vacancies in Chennai for the post of clerks,

canteen attendants and car drivers.

In all 15,000 people had applied for the written exams and 1,600 people were

shortlisted of which a few of them appeared for the exam at the Chennai

Customs House in the city yesterday.

Police sources said an exam supervisor saw a candidate behaving suspiciously

and found that he had a Bluetooth device in his ear and a broadband device

concealed at his waist, through which he was getting answers from an outsider.

Following this, the officials checked all the candidates and found 29 of them using

a similar modus operandi and arrested them based on a complaint preferred by

the Customs authorities.

Police are on the look out to trace the person, who had helped them in this novel

malpractice.
