All three accused arrested in Hampi gangrape case

Date:

Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday confirmed the arrest of all three accused in connection with the Hampi gangrape case, stating that the third suspect, who was absconding, was traced in Tamil Nadu and apprehended.

“He will be brought to Bengaluru or Koppal. All three accused have been arrested,” he told reporters.

Detailing the incident, Dr Parameshwara said the unfortunate event took place on the night of March 6 at around 10:30 PM. Four individuals, including two foreign nationals and two Indians, were staying at the Heartland Homestay in Hampi. After dinner, they proceeded to the Tungabhadra Dam premises for stargazing when they were confronted by three individuals demanding money.

“An altercation ensued, following which the perpetrators pushed all four into a canal. Three managed to escape, but one did not survive. On March 8, the body of Bibasha from Odisha was recovered. Meanwhile, the Israeli national and another Indian national were allegedly subjected to rape and torture,” Parameshwara stated.

The minister said the government is reinforcing security measures in Hampi and other tourist areas to ensure visitor safety.

Dr Parameshwara also mentioned that diplomatic missions and the relevant embassies would be informed to facilitate the safe return of the affected foreign nationals to their respective countries.
