Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday condemned Congress leader Adhir Ranjan’s remarks on President Draupadi Murmu and has asked the Congress to apologise to the nation.
Mayawati tweeted that while India hailed the election of Draupadi Murmu as the first woman from the tribal community to the post of the President, “the objectionable remarks made by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, against her are very sad, shameful and highly condemnable.”
She said: “The proceedings of the Parliament have been disrupted to protest against him calling the President as ‘Rashtrapatni’. It will be appropriate that the Congress should apologise to the country for this and abandon its casteist mindset.”
