Army on standby as relief in JK’s Ramban begins

Date:

Eight Indian Army columns have been kept on standby at key locations across Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, as the Army launched a swift and coordinated response to the cloudburst and intense rain that disrupted life and blocked NH-44, officials said on Monday.

Acting swiftly in coordination with civil administration authorities, including the District Commissioner, SSP and Superintendent of Traffic, the Army initiated ground assessments and began immediate relief operations.

While no formal emergency requisition has been made yet, the district administration has assured that Army assistance will be requested if the situation escalates.

Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) from Banihal, Karachial, Digdaul, Maitra and Chanderkote were deployed promptly to aid stranded civilians. Troops provided tea, hot meals, temporary shelters and basic medical care.

Simultaneously, JCBs and heavy equipment from civilian contractors, including KRCL, CPPL and DMR, have started road clearance operations along the obstructed NH-44. Preliminary assessments indicate restoration efforts may take up to 48 hours.

Despite the challenges, the spirit of the people remains undeterred. “Koi dikkat nahi hai… Army hai na… Sab kuchh theek ho jaayega,” a stranded traveller said, summing up the public’s trust in the Army’s timely support.

The Indian Army reaffirmed its commitment to stand with the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir in times of crisis, ensuring safety, support, and timely intervention.
