Atishi inaugurates 2 new academic blocks of Govt school in Delhi

Date:

Delhi Education Minister Atishi on Tuesday inaugurated two new academic blocks of a government school, Vishwamitra Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, in Old Seemapuri area of the National Capital.

Addressing the gathering at the event, Atishi compared the condition of government schools in Delhi before and after 2015 emphasising, “We must remember that 10 years ago, the condition of government schools was not like this.

Ten years ago, the first thing that you would notice upon entering the school was the stink of the toilet. In classrooms, there were no tables and chairs for the children to sit on, children had to sit on mats.”

“Teachers were put on duty in every government program. The result of this was that there were no teachers in the class to teach our children, the children used to sit in the class, but no one came to teach them. Our children did not have drinking water, there were no clean toilets; fans, lights and blackboards were broken. This was the condition of government schools in Delhi in 2015,” she noted.

“Due to inadequate educational facilities, many students did not complete their schooling. Statistics show that in the past, and even today in many states, more than 50% of children who enrolled in the first grade did not finish their studies. They left school before the 12th grade and found small jobs, such as working in grocery stores or auto repair shops; girls often took up work in households,” Atishi pointed out.

“I am happy to tell you that from 2015 till today, Delhi is focused on education. The result of this is that you are getting to see such wonderful school buildings and today if you go inside our schools, you will see such wonderful laboratories which are not even available in private schools. Our children are getting smart classrooms, computer labs, good sports facilities,” the Minister said.

Today, children studying in Delhi government schools are clearing IIT exams, clearing NEET exams, Atishi highlighted, adding, “This year itself, 1400 children studying in Delhi government schools have cleared JEE and NEET exams and have taken admission in big engineering and medical colleges of the country.”

“Delhi is the only state where in the last few years more than four lakh children have left private schools and taken admission in government schools of Delhi. This is Arvind Kejriwal’s education revolution,” she added.

The new building of Vishwamitra Sarvodaya Vidyalaya features 76 rooms, smart classrooms, 6 state-of-the-art labs, Library, Activity room, Excellent furniture and Lift.
