Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached here on a four-day state visit to India.
She was accorded a warm welcomed by Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh on her arrival.
The visit will further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi wrote on Twitter.
The Bangladeshi Prime Minister is scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and hold bilateral consultations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her visit. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also call on Hasina.
Hasina last visited New Delhi in October 2019. She is likely to visit Ajmer during her stay this time.
In recent years India and Bangladesh sustained high level of engagement including at the highest level between our two countries, the forthcoming visit of Sheikh Hasina will further strengthen the multifaceted relationships between the two countries based on historical and cultural ties, mutual trust and understanding, the MEA said.
The possibility a trade agreement called Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries during Hasina’s visit is bright. Hasina recently approved the draft of this agreement at a cabinet meeting.
She is also likely to address major business associations during her visit.
Recently, India and Bangladesh reviewed the entire spectrum of their bilateral defence and strategic ties during the 4th India Bangladesh Annual Defence Dialogue between Defence Secretary of India Ajay Kumar and Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division of Bangladesh Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman.
Defence cooperation, bilateral exercises, capability building cooperation were the areas of main focus.
