Bengal: Nurse found dead in Siliguri apartment

A nurse, under 30s, of a private nursing home was found hanging at a multi-storied rented apartment in West Bengal’s northern district commercial town of Siliguri last night, official sources said on Saturday.

Police said the nurse, a resident of Darjeeling, identified as Archana Thapa (25), who was staying along with her colleagues at the private nursing home, was found hanging in the washroom on Friday night, which created panic and resentment among the local people in the Ward No. 25 Mukunda Das Sarani is under Milanpally of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation area.

Police said the family members of the victim were informed and rushed to this commercial town, the gateways of Darjeeling, Sikkim, and bordering Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh.

Local people complained the nursing home, where she works, had arranged to take away the body with an ambulance before informing the police, but they protested and forced the nursing home to abandon the taking away of the body and the police were informed. The body was sent for a postmortem.
