Bengal : TMC attacks NCW for their visit in Murshidabad

Date:

The Trinamool Congress launched a sharp critique of the National Commission for Women (NCW) over their visit to riot-hit Murshidabad in West Bengal, alleging that the move is part of a BJP-led ploy — backed by the central government — to deploy central teams to the state for political mileage ahead of the coming elections.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose terming the National Commission for Women as ‘Notorious Commission for Women’ wrote on her X handle, “The @NCWIndia is not National Commission for women’ but Notorious Commission for Whitepapers. In Sandeshkhali NCWIndia made women sign blank papers to cook up fictitious rape charges. Now, at BJP4India ’s behest, NCW in Malda & Murshidabad. The question must be asked: more white papers incoming?”

The MP was referring to the 2024 Sandeshkhali incident, where multiple women later disclosed that they were coerced into signing blank papers during an NCW visit — documents that were subsequently used to lodge fabricated rape allegations. With NCW officials once again visiting Bengal, Ghose raised serious questions about their true intentions.

Trinamool Congress youth leader Debangshu Bhattacharya, alleging that the BSF was instrumental in allowing intruders to cross borders and incite violence said, “The BSF has a clear role in this incident. They enabled intruders to cross through the borders and neighbouring states. Local residents have confirmed that the attackers were not from the area.”

“As for the BJP, they seem to have an annual routine of dispatching Central teams to Bengal — be it during the Bogtui incident, the post-poll violence, or the situation in Sandeshkhali. Yet no one knows what actually came out of these visits or from the CBI and NIA investigations that followed,” he said.

“Just like they orchestrated violence ahead of the 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections and the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections, they are now attempting to replicate the same script in Bengal,” he added.

Meanwhile, a six-member team of the National Commission for Women (NCM) led by chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar visited the troubled areas of Dhuliyan and Jafrabad on Saturday morning where the women members of the victim families demanded for permanent BSF camp and NIA investigation.

Speaking to the media after the visit, Rahatkar said, “Union home minister Amit Shah is keeping a close watch on the development. We will prepare a full-fledged report where we will give all our recommendations. The condition of the people is very serious. We will do everything to restore peace in the area.”
