Bihar: Independent candidate Shankar Singh leading in Rupali

 Independent candidate and former MLA Shankar Singh is leading over his nearest rival Kaladhar Mandal of JD(U) by a margin of more than 1,000 votes in Rupali assembly seat, where polling for by-election was held on July 10.

According to office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Independent candidate Singh is leading over his nearest rival Mandal of JD(U) by a margin of 1,036 votes. Singh has got 37,137 while Mandal got only 36,101 votes.

On the other hand, Beema Bharti of RJD, who considered herself as strong contender, is at third position, far behind from Singh and Mandal. Bharti has got only 20,253 votes.

The counting of votes had begun at 8 AM amid tight security arrangements. Polling for by-election to Rupali assembly seat was held on July 10. The seat had fallen vacant after resignation of Bharti, who was sitting MLA of JD(U) from Rupali.

She had resigned from JD(U) and also from membership in the assembly to contest on R
