Amid tight security by the BSF jawans, the fencing work is being executed on Wednesday to cover the porous border of about one km between India and Bangladesh in Baishnabnagar area of Malda district, official sources said.
BSF South Bengal DIG Nilotpal Kumar Pandey said the Border Guard
Bangladesh (BGB) had raised an objection over the matter but now the
matter was settled and fencing work was in progress.
After two days of intense tension between the Border Security Force (BSF)
and BGB and local residents on both sides,
fencing process was hampered in Bakhrabad village on the India-Bangladesh Border in Baishnabnagar Gram
Panchayat area in the Kaliachak III Block of Malda district.
The riverine porous area has been a safe corridor for the miscreants,
jehadis and anti-national forces. who crossed into the Indian
territory to create disturbances, said a local Sukdevpur resident of
the Indian side.
He alleged on Monday and Tuesday when the BSF-assigned workers were
erecting fence in the porous border of the Indian side, protests came
from other side’s local people and we’re supported by the BGB.
” Slogans and counter slogans rented the area even as we supported the
BSF to carry on fencing. After a series of flag meetings between the
BSF and BGB, erection of fencing started today,” he said.
” Tempers flared when Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel tried to
intervene during the Border fencing process at Bakhrabad Village Post
Sukdevpur on the India-Bangladesh Border in Baishnabnagar Gram
Panchayat area in the Kaliachak III Block; Malda District,” leader of
the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Suvendu
Adhikari said.
” The local Indian citizens of the area along with the BSF-India
personnel scared them off and made them realize that no nuisance will
be tolerated, when it comes to National Security,” adhikari said on
his X handle ( former twitter).
” Chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vande Mataram and Jai Shree Ram were
reverberating when the BGB personnel were forced to flee. This is the
effect of the Public Awakening in West Bengal and Nationalism is
flowing in the veins,” the Nandigram BJP MLA said.
Meanwhile, the BSF has detained six Bangladeshi nationals for staying
illegally in Cooch Behar district and handed them over to the local
police at Mekhliganj.
The BSF detained them on Monday after the six Bangladeshi nationals,
including a family, fled Delhi to return to Bangladesh after Delhi
authorities began a crackdown against the illegal immigrants.
