By-elections: AAP leading in three of four assembly seats in Punjab

Date:

Ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab was leading in three of the four assembly seats where polling for by-elections was held on November 20.

According to ECI, counting trends in the morning showed that AAP’s Gurdeep Singh Randhawa, Dr Ishank Kumar, and Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon were leading in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal and Gidderbaha assembly segments respectively, while Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon was leading in Barnala.

Bye-elections saw a three-corner contest among AAP, Congress, and BJP as Shiromani Akali Dal decided not to contest elections after its President Sukhbir Singh Badal was declared “Tankhaiya” by Akal Takht.

The bye-elections were necessitated as the MLAs from these constituencies had contested and won the Loksabha Elections held in June.
