Cache of arms and ammunition recovered in Baramulla forest

Date:

Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in a forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Friday.

They said Baramulla Police, along with Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles and 53 battalion of CRPF, launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Namblan forest area during which a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.

The recovered items included two Chinese hand grenades, 104 AK-47 rounds, two AK-47 magazines (one damaged), six pieces of RDX, one detonator set with wire, a pouch, two pithoo bags and a pressure IED.

“The timely operation prevented the possible misuse of these arms and ammunition for unlawful activities,” police said.

Police has registered a case under Sections 7/25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 13 of UAPA at Police Station Sheeri, and further investigation is ongoing.

“Baramulla Police remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the district by taking proactive measures against any threats to peace,” they said.
