CBI apprehends an official of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in an alleged bribery case

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended an Under Secretary of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, government of India, in an alleged bribery case.

According to a statement issued by CBI, the Central probe agency registered a case on complaint against Sonu Kumar, an Under Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

It was alleged that the son (who stays in the USA) of the complainant’s friend had applied for a Statement of Need in the Ministry of Health, and for giving the original (hard) copy of the same, the said Under Secretary allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. The Complainant enclosed the printout of the said certificate which was sent by said Under Secretary to his friend through Email, it said.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the Complainant. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused. The CBI said that the probe is underway, it added.
