Congress attacks Centre on MSMEs

Date:

The Congress on Friday launched a fresh attack on the BJP-led government at the Centre on the condition of micro, small and medium enterprises, claiming that MSMEs saw “zero growth” in the last five years.

“Cease of doing small business under Modi govt. In past 5 years, 72 per cent MSMEs which provide 12 cr jobs saw zero growth,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote in a tweet.

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge in an apparent reference to billionaire businessman Gautam Adani, said, “In two and a half years,

PM’s ‘Param Mitr’ (best friend) who provides only 30,000 jobs, saw wealth grow by 13 times.”

He further said that “Modi magic is benefiting Cronies, and bleeding MSME’s.”

The Hindenburg Research report over Adani Group had alleged that the Group had engaged in stock manipulation and accounting fraud scheme over the course of decades.

Several Opposition parties including Congress have been demanding to the Centre to either constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) or set up an

inquiry under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court to look into the Hindenburg Research report.

The Government had agreed for a committee which will examine the existing regime and regulator’s role in preventing meltdown situation of shares, as happened to Adani, after the Hindenburg Research report, but it stressed that the Supreme Court could choose the composition of experts committee from names suggested by it.
