Congress to oppose bill for privatization of banks

Date:

Congress has said that it will oppose the government’s move to privatise the nationalized banks and hand them over to their chosen capitalist friends, saying that the party will strongly oppose any bill that is introduced in Parliament in this regard.

Head of the Congress’s communication department Jairam Ramesh said that the NDA government at the centre under its policy of privatization has been trying to hand over each and every government property created for the benefit of the people to its corporate friends and claimed that this policy will be disastrous for the country. He further warned that if the nationalised banks are privatized and sold to private entities, it will prove fatal for the country.

Jairam Ramesh tweeted that, “On this day, 53 years ago, banks were nationalized. This was a transformational change. Modi government only wants to privatize state-owned banks under the ‘Sell India’ project to a few select people.” Selling banks would be disastrous for the country. Congress will oppose any bill aimed at selling public sector banks to private players.”
