Delhi CM to surrender in Tihar today

Date:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to surrender to Tihar Jail authorities Sunday afternoon, following the expiry of his 21-day interim bail.

Before his surrender, Kejriwal plans to visit Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and meet with his party workers and leaders.

In a social media post, Kejriwal, who faces charges of money laundering related to the Delhi Excise Policy case, expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court for granting him interim bail that allowed him to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections that ended June 1.

“I came out for election campaign for 21 days on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. I am very grateful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court,” he said.

“Today I will surrender by going to Tihar. I will leave home at 3 pm. First I will go to Rajghat and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. From there I will go to Hanuman temple in Connaught Place to seek blessings of Hanuman ji. And from there I will go to the party office and meet all the workers and party leaders. From there I will again leave for Tihar,” he said.

Kejriwal also reiterated his commitment to the people of the national capital, promising to take care of them even while in jail.

“All of you take care of yourselves. I will take care of you all in jail. If you are happy then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail,” he said.
