Karnataka is grappling with a surge in dengue cases, as over 7,000 positive cases have been recorded this year, according to the Commission of Health and Family Welfare Services.
The alarming rise has prompted swift action from health officials.
Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao addressed the issue, emphasising the critical need for source reduction to curb the spread of dengue mosquitoes.
“We are monitoring it. The most important part is source reduction, to reduce the proliferation of the dengue mosquito,” Rao stated.
He highlighted that recent rainfall has exacerbated the problem by causing water stagnation, which creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes. In response, extensive spraying activities are being conducted in construction areas, schools, and other vulnerable spots.
Rao assured the public that treatment is readily available. “The treatment is available in government hospitals. For anyone who requires any kind of IV fluids and platelets, it is available in government hospitals,” he confirmed.
With the monsoon season in full swing, the health department is ramping up efforts to control the outbreak and ensure timely medical care for those affected. The public is urged to stay vigilant and take preventive measures to protect themselves from dengue.
