Earthquake of magnitude 4.0 hits Delhi-NCR

An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 hit Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday morning, the National Center for Seismology said.

According to the NCS, the intensity of the earthquake was measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. The epicentre of the quake was located at latitude 28.59 degrees north and longitude 77.16 degrees east at a depth of 5 km.

The quake’s depth was just 5 km with Delhi as its epicenter. Strong tremors were also felt in some parts of North India.

The quake measured 4 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was located in the national capital at a depth of five kilometres. Apart from Delhi, tremors were felt in Faridabad, Gurugram, Rahetak, Ghaziabad, Noida and its surrounding areas. Due to the earthquake, the ceiling fans of people’s houses started shaking rapidly and the utensils kept in the houses started rattling. People rushed out of their homes out of fear.

The Delhi Police has also advised people to dial emergency services 112 in case of any problem.

No casualties or damage have been reported so far.
