Eight die, 12 hurt, in Chennai in Cyclone rain-related incidents

Eight people were killed and 12 others sustained injuries

in various Cyclone induced rain-related incidents in Chennai city, police said on

Tuesday.

A police release on traffic updates said eight deaths were reported and 12 people

were admitted to hospitals following incidents of drowning and electrocution.

It said a body of an unidentified man aged about 70 years, who was

found dead at the platform near the Vaidyanathan flyover (H-5 New

Washermenpet PS limits) was sent to Government Stanley Hospital.

Padmanaban (M/50), Senthurai, Natham, Dindigul district was

electrocuted and died at loan square road, near Aavin Booth

(B-2 Esplanade Police Station limits) and the body was sent to the

Ragiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH).

In another incidnet, Murugan (M/35) died by fallen in Besant Nagar

area, while the body of an unidentified woman aged about 60 years was

found at Foreshore Estate Bus Depot and sent to Government Royapettah

Hospital (GRH).

One Ganesan (M/70 years) of Thuraipakkam was electrocuted while

walking on the road near his house at Selva Vinayagar Koil Street,

Pandiyan Nagar, while Bharath (M/53 years) of Nochikuppam died due

to compound wall collapse at Ellaiamman Kovil Street, Nochikuppam

under the Marina Beach Police Station limits.

It said one Selvam (M/50), working as a Security in Government Boys Higher

Secondary School, Choolaimedu was found dead in the rain water

inside the School campus and the body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College

(KMC) Hospital and a 19-year-old youth, identified as Mirajul Islam of Assam

who stayed at Kotturpuram Corporation School relief Centre died due to epilepsy

today at 0200 hrs.

Apart from this, 12 people were admitted to various hospitals after they suffered

injuries in various incidents across the city.

Meanwhile, three employees of LPG bunk generator room was rescued after

container fell down in the nearby construction pit.

Three employees of the bunk were rescued so far and NDRF has joined in the

operation along with Fire and rescue services department officials.
