Former East Delhi mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal on Friday requested Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena to announce immediate compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to the families of three deceased and Rs 10 lakh each to the five injured people following a fire in a building in West Azad Nagar on Saturday last.
In an e-mail letter, he also requested the LG that the compensation should be given, so that the injured can get their treatment properly in a private hospital.
He said that strict action should be taken against the guilty builder, Municipal Corporation officials and BSES officials.
Agarwal wrote the letter after he met one of the injured, Sonam Sadh, in GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden.
He mentioned that Sonam is fighting for her life in the hospital. Both her hands are badly burnt. Her husband is not there anymore. She was alone teaching her 14-year-old son who is in 10th class when the fire broke out. She was also supporting her parents by teaching yoga to people.
Due to burns to both her hands and legs, it is difficult to say whether she will be able to teach yoga or not. Her scooter is also burnt. The financial condition of the house is very bad. We cannot say how the child’s fee will be arranged. Whether his studies will be able to continue or not.
Agarwal also informed about Rahul Bhalla and Seema Bhalla, mother and son, who are badly burnt and due to lack of proper treatment in GTB Hospital, they returned home and are battling for their lives.
The fire incident happened in the building of house number 219 in West Azad Nagar, under Krishna Nagar police station, in which three people Keshav Sharma, Anju Sharma who are mother and son and Pramila Sadh died and 5 people were injured.
